Abstract  Highly regenerative tissues of tall fescue and red fescue produced from mature seed-derived embryogenic callus were induced and proliferated on medium containing 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (4.5 or 9.0 μM), 6-benzylaminopurine (0, 0.044, 0.44 or 2.2 μM) and cupric sulfate (0.1 or 5.0 μM) under dim-light conditions (10 to 30 μE m–2 s–1, 16 h light). Tall fescue tissues were transformed with three plasmids containing the genes for hygromycin phosphotransferase (hpt), phosphinothricin acetyltransferase (bar) and β-glucuronidase (uidA;gus), and red fescue with three plasmids containing hpt, uidA and a synthetic green fluorescent protein gene [sgfp(S65T)]. DNA from T0 plants of eight independently transformed lines from tall fescue and 11 from red fescue were analyzed by PCR and DNA blot hybridization. The co-expression frequency of all three transgenes [hpt/bar/uidA or hpt/uidA/sgfp(S65T)] in transgenic tall fescue and red fescue plants was 25–27%; for two transgenes [hpt/bar or hpt/uidA for tall fescue and hpt/uidA or hpt/sgfp(S65T) for red fescue], the co-expression frequency was 50–75%.

Summary Flexible, soluble poly(amic diethyl ester) precursors of rodlike poly(p-phenylene biphenyltetracarboximide) (BPDA-PDA) and poly(4,4′-oxydiphenylene biphenyltetracarboximide) (BPDA-ODA), which are more stable than the respective poly(amic acid)s and are not in the equiliration with the constituent anhydride and amine monomers so that chemical exchange reactions are prevented in their solution blending, were synthesized. Homogeneous precursor/precursor solutions with various compositions were obtained in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone with appreciably high solid contents. The dried precursor blend films and resultive polyimide composite films thermally imidized were optically transparent, regardless of compositions and film process conditions. The composites showed single Tg behavior. Conclusively, rodlike BPDA-PDA/flexible BPDA-ODA molecular composites were achieved from the blend of the respective flexible poly(amic diethyl ester) precursors through conventional drying and imidization process. In addition, film properties of composites were characterized.

Abstract The sign of the quadrupole coupling constant eqQ of 8B in ZrB2 is determined to be positive through the β-delayed α-ray anisotropy measurement combined with the spin manipulation technique by use of the β-NMR. According to the theoretical calculation of the electric field gradient in ZrB2, the sign of the quadrupole moment of 8B is deduced to be positive.

Abstract The degrees of nuclear spin polarization of 8,12B, 9C, 12N, 13O, 20,21F, 23Mg, 27Si and 39Ca produced in the high energy 12,13C, 16O, 22Ne, 24Mg, 28Si and 40Ca ions on Be collisions have been measured systematically, for the technical developments of the nuclear moment studies as well as the hyperfine interaction studies by means of β-NMR technique. The fragment momentum dependences were well reproduced by the simple kinematical model. Incident energy dependence and the mass dependence as well as the reaction angle dependences were qualitatively explained by the mixing of the near and far side collisions.

Abstract The dipolar broadening of the NMR on short-lived β-emitter 8Li implanted in single crystal Cu has been observed as a function of crystal orientation at several temperatures. From the orientation angle dependence of the line width, it was found that the main component of the 8Li occupies substitutional site, while about 30% of 8Li occupies octahedral interstitial site at temperatures below 300 K.
