Frequency of conflict between caregiving and responsibilities as a wife, mother, and paid and unpaid worker was assessed. Daughters reported relatively infrequent conflict between caregiving and other obligations. A multiple regression analysis revealed that daughters who reported frequent conflict between their obligations as caregivers and their obligations as wives had poorer relationships with their mothers. The findings emphasize the importance of a supportive spouse for married caregivers.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1089-7623Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsElectrical Engineering, Measurement and Control TechnologyNotes: A goniometric optical scatter instrument has been developed at the National Institute of Standards and Technology which can readily perform measurements of optical scatter and its associated polarization in directions out of the plane of incidence. In this article the coordinate transformations that are required to operate such a goniometer with respect to sample-specific coordinates are described. We present new methods for measuring the 3×3 nonhanded Mueller matrix elements using dual rotating half-wave retarders, and present a subset of the Mueller matrix, referred to as the bidirectional ellipsometric parameters which have been shown to simplify the interpretation of the data. The results of out-of-plane Mueller matrix and bidirectional ellipsometric measurements from a titanium nitride layer on silicon are presented.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

As Alzheimer's disease and other dementias progress, the patient can become increasingly dependent on the family for care. This dependency can place the caregiver in a role that is both difficult and demanding. In this study coping strategies used by family caregivers of dementia patients and caregivers' sense of burden were assessed. Burden scores were significantly correlated with spiritual support, an external coping strategy. When spiritual well-being is integrated with medical and psychosocial needs, the clergy and spiritual community can play an integral role in the care for families and dementia patients.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Designed for families, older adults and service providers, the program provides information and skills needed to recognize and to take appropriate action with regard to alcohol abuse among the elderly.
