It is demonstrated that, at fast time scales, it is the collective behavior of plasma particles (electrons and ions) which is affected by dust charge fluctuation. The existence of an ion temperature threshold above which the ion–acoustic mode can become unstable due to the fluctuation of the dust charge is shown. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

It is shown that Hall term contributions (which had been neglected earlier in the work of Mett and Taylor [Phys. Fluids B 4, 73 (1992)]), even in the limit of small corrections of the order of ω/Ωi (ω and Ωi are the wave and the ion-cyclotron frequencies, respectively), improve substantially the parallel electromotive force (EMF) for the resonance layer. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Plasmas 8, 3150 (2001) are erroneous as the shear flow effect has been included in an inappropriate manner. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1089-7674Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsNotes: The present investigation reports the existence of a one-dimensional (1-D) shock wave profile for a weakly nonlinear modified acoustic-like/dust-acoustic waves. Here, unlike in the conventional plasma systems, the dissipative effect to balance the nonlinear steepening arises self-consistently due to dust charge fluctuation dynamics in response to the collective plasma oscillations. The possibility of other localized coherent structures like dissipative/dispersive solitons in higher-order solutions has been highlighted. Its implications in laboratory and space plasmas are discussed. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The strongly nonlinear stage of weakly interacting modes is controlled by a vector-product type nonlinearity. The latter is responsible for the formation of a dipolar vortex whose salient features are described analytically. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 1988Staff ViewISSN: 1439-0523Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: Agriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Fishery, Domestic Science, NutritionNotes: A procedure has been established for high frequency, long-term plant regeneration from leaf sheath-derived callus cultures a- Citronella Java, variety ‘Jorhat’. A total of 600 plants were successfully transferred to the glass house, and subsequently 500 of these were shifted to the field in TWO batches of 250 plants each. From amongst 230 plants of the firs; hatch, on which data were recorded, extensive somaclonal variations were observed for seven agronomic traits, viz., herbage yield, tiller number, diameter of the bush, length and area of the longest leaf, fresh and’ dry weight ratio and oil content. In addition, variations were also recorded for six major constituents of the essential oil pool, i.e., citronellal, citronellol, geraniol, citronellyl acetate, geranyl acetate and elemol. Correlation analysis between agronomic traits revealed a significant negative correlation between oil content and herbage yield. Haw-ever, plants with higher herbage yield (〉 3 fold) and oil content (〉 1.5–2.0 fold) than the parent variety could be selected from amongst the variants. Furthermore, plants could be recovered with improved oil quality, possessing higher levels (〉 1.5 fold) of desirable constituents of the oil like citronellal, citronellol, geraniol and geranyl acetate together with a reduced level (〉 5 fold) of elemol which is an undesirable component of the citronella oil. Out of the 19 selected somaclones that were evaluated in a replicated trial with the donor parent as control, 5 lines have been further placed under multitocational trials for stability assessment. The scope of sormaclonal variation is discussed in the improvement of vegetatively propagated aromatic grasses that have a narrow genetic base.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1420-9039Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: MathematicsPhysicsNotes: Abstract A nonlinear mathematical model, which takes into account the dissipative mechanism, is used to describe the signal transmission in a traffic flow. It is shown that dissipative mechanisms, under certain conditions, may produce attenuation effects against the typical nonlinear steepening of waves. An asymptotic analysis is carried out to discuss wave features when the governing hyperbolic system of equations is objective to different kinds of approximations.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL:
