Abstract Inclusive neutron multiplicity distributions were measured by means of 4π liquid-scintillator detectors for Ar and Kr-induced reactions at 44 MeV/nucleon and 32 MeV/nucleon, respectively. For all the systems studied, the observed distributions exhibit a bump structure at large multiplicity, corresponding to highly dissipative collisions. For Ar-induced reactions, the excitation energies necessary to explain the most probable neutron multiplicity associated with these dissipative collisions are estimated, the correspondence between excitation energy and neutron multiplicity being calculated in the framework of the statistical model. The so-obtained values of excitation energies, which are systematically lower than those predicted using the massive-transfer picture, are discussed.

Abstract One-proton and one-neutron stripping reactions induced by a 793 MeV16O beam bombarding a208Pb target have been studied at the GANIL facility using a high resolution energy loss magnetic spectrometer. The reactions are governed by two semi classical selection rules which are naturally contained in the one-step EFR-DWBA formalism. Relative intensities of the populated states are well reproduced by this formalism which, on the other hand, fails to predict correctly absolute cross section values.

Abstract: Inclusive neutron energy spectra were measured by time of flight using 1.22 GeV antiprotons from LEAR, CERN, as projectiles and targets from natural Al, Cu, Ag, Ho, Ta, Au, Pb, Bi, U. The sum of two Maxwellian distributions was fitted to the spectra obtained at several forward and backward angles yielding neutron multiplicities Mi and slope or temperature parameters T i for the low-energy (evaporative, i=1) and high-energy (pre-equilibrium,i=2) parts, respectively. M 1 increases with A, proportional to the nuclear volume, and M 2 is growing with A , proportional to the nuclear radius. The T parameters are nearly independent of A. The results are compared with previous multiplicity measurements with a neutron detector, intranuclear cascade calculations and neutron spectra from stopped antiproton annihilation on nuclei. With the measured proton spectra also the ratio of emitted neutrons to protons was determined for Au.

Abstract By using two 4π detector systems for charged particles and neutrons, we measured the evaporated light particles emitted in coincidence with evaporation residues (ER) produced in the reaction32S+58Ni atE(32S) ≈ 820 MeV. From the analysis of the light particle multiplicities as a function of the ER velocity, we extracted the maximum excitation energy reached in fusion evaporation reactions for the studied system.
