Abstract: The neutron deficient nucleus 108Te was studied in the 54Fe(58Ni,2p2n) reaction. A detector system consisting of 4 Euroball cluster detectors, a charged-particle detector ball and a 16 element neutron multiplicity filter was used to detect the emitted particles and γ rays. A new, significantly extended level scheme was constructed on the basis of γγ-coincidence relations. Spin values for the states were determined from angular distribution ratios. The experimental results are discussed in terms of the shell model.

Abstract: A number of previously unobserved γ-rays emitted from the neutron-deficient nuclide 171Pt have been identified using the recoil decay tagging technique. The level scheme has been updated using information from γ-γ coincidences and angular distribution measurements. To further confirm the assignments of the γ-rays to 171Pt, the events were correlated with the alpha-decay of the daughter nucleus 167Os.

Abstract Excited states of 108 Te were populated in the 54 Fe + 58 Ni (270 MeV) reaction using the NORDBALL detector array equipped with charged-particle and neutron detector systems for reaction channel separation. Gamma rays belonging to the neutron deficient nucleus 108 Te were identified for the first time. On the basis of γγ-coincidence and angular correlation relations a level scheme was constructed with tentative spin and parity assignments. The structure of the nucleus is discussed in the framework of systematics of heavier Te nuclei.

Abstract: A new superdeformed band has been discovered in a EUROBALL experiment and assigned to 143Eu. It has a maximum intensity of 35% of the 143Eu yrast superdeformed band and the transition energies of the two bands are very similar. Based on comparison with cranked shell model calculations the new band is tentatively assigned the high-N intruder configuration π62ν70 and the parity and signature quantum numbers (π,α) = (−1,+1/2). In addition to the already known high-energy transition at 3361 keV another discrete line at 2715 keV was found to be in coincidence with the yrast superdeformed band. However, it was not possible to connect the decay out of either of the superdeformed bands to known normally deformed states.

Abstract High-spin states in192Pb were populated via the reaction173Yb(24Mg,5n) at a beam energy of 140 MeV, and the resultingγ-rays were deteced using GAMMASPHERE. A previously observed superdeformed band in192Pb has been confirmed.

Abstract We report on new results for the decay of the superdeformed (SD) band in194Pb. No transitions linking the SD structure with the known level scheme of194Pb could be found, but the feeding intensities into the normal-deformed states are determined and limits on the one-step decay of the SD band are given.

Abstract Neutron deficient nuclei close to 100Snhave been investigated in-beam by γ-ray spectroscopic methods using the NORDBALL detector array. A beam of 270 MeV 58Niwas used to bombard a target of 54Fe.Reaction channel separation was achieved with a 4π charged particle multidetector setup together with a 1π neutron detector wall placed in the forward direction. Excited states of 102Inwere identified for the first time. The level scheme constructed from γ-γ-particle-coincidence and γ-γ-angular correlation analysis is presented. The structure of 102 In is discussed and compared to neighboring nuclei in the framework of the nuclear shell-model.
