ISSN: 1439-0264Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: MedicineNotes: The present study aims to characterize the main morphological changes occurring on the bovine ruminal papillae during pre- and postnatal development. Light microscopic observations of the ruminal wall from bovine fetus (3 to 9 month fetal age) and from crossbreed (Holstein-Frisian) calves (5 to 60 days-old) were analysed. The results suggest that the postnatal papillary development corresponds mainly to a fully actualization of the differentiation pattern already developed at the prenatal stage.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1432-1432Keywords: Key words: Genome comparison — Functional classes —Haemophilus influenzae—Saccharomyces cerevisiae—Methanococcus jannaschii— ArchaeaSource: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: BiologyNotes: Abstract. The evolutionary divergence among the three major domains of life can now be addressed through the first set of complete genomes from representative species. These model species from the three domains of life, Haemophilus influenzae for Bacteria, Saccharomyces cerevisiae for Eukarya, and Methanococcus jannaschii for Archaea, provide the basis for a universal functional classification and analysis. We have chosen 13 functional classes and three superclasses (ENERGY, COMMUNICATION and INFORMATION) as global descriptors of protein function. Compositional comparison of the three complete genomes reveals that functional classes are ubiquitous yet diverse in the three domains of life. Proteins related with ENERGY processes are generally represented in all three domains, while those related with COMMUNICATION represent the most distinctive functional feature of each single domain. Finally, functions related with INFORMATION processing (translation, transcription, and replication) show a complex behaviour. In Archaea, proteins in this superclass are related with proteins in either Eukarya or Bacteria, as recognized previously. The distribution of functional classes in the three domains accurately reflects the principal characteristics of cellular life forms.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Als Lösung der Navier-Stokes- und der Energiegleichung resultieren selbsterregt oszillieren de Strömungs- und Temperaturfelder, verbunden mit starker Erhöhung des Wärmeübergangs und des Druckverlustes.Notes: Abstract A two dimensional numerical investigation of the unsteady laminar flow pattern and forced convective heat transfer in a channel with a built-in rectangular cylinder is presented. The channel in the entrance region has a length to plate spacing of ten. The computations were made for several Reynolds number and two rectangular cylinder aspect ratios. Hydrodynamic behavior and heat transfer results are obtained by solution of the complete Navier-Stokes and energy equation. The results show that these flow exhibits laminar self-sustained oscillations for Reynolds numbers above the critical one. This study show that oscillatory separated flows result in a significant heat transfer enhancement but also in a significant pressure drop increase.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL:
