The oxidized wafer was covered by a thin, thermally grown oxide (134 nm) and implantation was performed either in random or in channeling directions through the membrane. Ion doses were in the range of 0.5×1016 to 5×1016 atoms/cm2. Implantation was followed by an annealing at 1000 °C for 0.5 h in nitrogen gas to remove the radiation defects. Due to the effect of implantation, the bonding quality was very good in all cases. In addition, results of Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy showed that using channeled implantation with a dose of 0.5×1016 atoms/cm2, the adherent silicon layer was of high quality (∼1.5×103 dislocations/cm2) and the interface remained sharp.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

In situ rf sputter deposited trilayers of NbN/MgO/NbN are plasma etched to fabricate Josephson junctions. A novel low temperature, plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposited SiO2 film is used for wiring and resistor insulation. Sputter deposited molybdenum films are used for resistors. Tunnel junctions fabricated with this process have Vm=61 mV at jc=1100 A/cm2, and Vg = 5.1–5.2 mV at 4.2 K. Critical currents are uniform to within ±3% for 101 junction strings and are within ±25% over all die on 3 in. wafers. This process has been used to fabricate 8-bit single flux quantum counter circuits, squid magnetometer circuits, 870 junction strings, and arrays of 256 squids. Preliminary circuit testing indicates operation at temperatures within the range of small closed-cycle refrigerators.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The YBCO films with STO underlayers displayed better superconducting transitions than the YBCO films without underlayers, with zero-resistance temperatures of 86.5 and 75 K for films with underlayers on sapphire and SOS substrates, respectively. X-ray diffraction and secondary-ion mass spectroscopy have been used to explore the role played by the STO underlayer in improving film quality.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 1994Staff ViewISSN: 1077-3118Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsNotes: A simple single-step technique for surface patterning is presented. It is shown that well-adhering micrometer-sized patterns of 100% coverage preserving the shape and dimensions of the ablated area can be deposited by ablating and transferring tungsten thin films in the form of single solid pieces using single pulses of peak power up to 100 mW and 100 μs–1 ms duration from a diode-pumped YAG laser.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
