    Résumé Un registre des cas d'abus de drogue est décrit dans ce travail et le problème de la constitution de dossiers exacts et complets est examiné en détail. Une étude d'un échantillon de cas est présentée pour illustrer l'usage qu'on peut faire d'un tel registre dans les recherches épidémiologiques sur la toxicomanie et les implications pour l'établissement d'un programme sont discutées. Un résultat significatif est que la moitié de l'échantillon qui a été inscrit le premier dans le registre avait eu affaire aux services judiciairesseulement pendant les 12–24 mois suivant le rapport initial. S'il ne nous a pas été possible d'avoir une vue complète de l'héroïnomane, nous avons cependant pu réunir une partie du matériel nécessaire.
    Abstract:
    Zusammenfassung Ein Süchtigenregister wird beschrieben, und die Probleme der Genauigkeit und Vollständigkeit der Fallermittlung werden ausführlich behandelt. Die Untersuchung einer Fallgruppe wird dargestellt, um die verläßliche Anwendung eines Registers bei der Untersuchung der Epidemiologie der Sucht zu illustrieren. Folgerungen für die Programmplanung werden diskutiert. Es erweist sich als bedeutsames Ergebnis, daß die Hälfte der zuerst dem Süchtigenregister Gemeldetennur 12–24 Monate nach der ersten Meldung mit Strafvollzugseinrichtungen in Berührung kam. Während es uns nicht gelang, ein vollständiges Register von Heroinsüchtigen zu erstellen, konnten wir einige der notwendigen Vorarbeiten leisten.

    Summary A narcotics register is described and the problems of accuracy and completeness of case ascertainment are detailed. A study of a sample of cases is presented to illustrate certain uses of a register in the investigation of the epidemiology of addiction and implications for program planning are discussed. A significant finding is that one-half of the sample first reported to the Narcotics Register had contacts with law enforcement agenciesonly during the follow-up period which varied from 12–14 months following the initial report.

    Summary and Conclusions The therapeutic rationale of an out-patient neuropsychiatric day center has been described as a unified and planful intervention in a set of highly maladapted behavior patterns and attending feeling states. The day center approach to the treatment of the ambulatory schizophrenic is discussed as a type of milieu therapy, on an outpatient basis, which is designed to modify patterns of social and vocational maladjustment, and to deal with the disorders of thought, affective control, and motivation so commonly seen in this type of patient. The therapists maintain realistically modest notions about how far they can go in modifying major psychoses of long duration. They do, however, share the conviction that almost any patient can be helped to achieve a higher level of adjustment. So far, there have been enough instances of increments to give the firm impression that this approach to the problem holds much promise for the future.
