    Abstract An attempt is made to validate the use of a microbial consortium in BOD analysis. A uniform dehydrated microbial consortium, `BODSEED', has been used as a seeding material in BOD analysis of synthetic and other industrial effluents. Statistical analysis of the obtained BOD values shows that conventional seeding material such as sewage can be replaced by `BODSEED'.
