The new design of the elastic steel-plastics segment for the step bearing enabled limitations to be removed on stops and operating regimes of hydrogenerator No. 9; to raise the operating flexibility of the hydropower unit by making it possible to start it with coldor hot oil; and also, after brief (less than 5 min) stops, to increase the reliability and durability of the step bearing. 2. The new design of the elastic steel-plastics segment can be recommended for increasing the dependability of step bearings which do not now have the required reliability and durability.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1420-9136Keywords: Stick-slip ; Faulting experiments ; Rupture velocitySource: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: GeosciencesPhysicsNotes: Abstract The faiture of pre-existing faults was studied experimentally and theoretically. The stress concentration around open and healed slits in plexiglas under uniaxial stress was calculated and compared to observations by Schlieren photographs. The rupture velocities along these pre-existing faults were found to vary from 0.25 of the shear velocity up to velocities slightly exceeding the shear velocity. Sudden fault dislocation was often preceded by stable sliding. The amplitudes of elastic waves radiated in the forward quadrant of the rupture were larger than the amplitudes in the backward quadrant.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The experiments were carried out with three wings with sweep angles of χ=68°, 73°, and 78° and parabolic profiles in the 0.6 × 0.6 m2 test section of the blow-down wind tunnel T-313 of the institute. The test conditions were varied from Mach numbers M=2 to 4, unit Reynolds numbers from Re l=26 × 106 to 56 × 106 m−1, and angles of attack from α=0° to 22°. The results of the investigations revealed that for certain flow conditions shocks are formed above, below, and between the primary vortices. The experimental data were accurate enough to detect the onset of secondary and tertiary separation as well as other boundaries. The various flow regimes discussed in the literature were extended in several cases. The major findings are reported.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The effect of the magnitude and type of strain on change of strength of viscose tyre cord has been studied by fatigue testing rubber and cord specimens. 2. It is found that the nature of change in strength of tyre cord under repeated tensile and alternating tensile — compressive strains is similar. Therefore, the results of tests on bare cord under repeated tensile test can be used to indicate its fatigue properties.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL:
