Abstract A computer-controlled instrument configuration is described which is capable of the noninvasive detection of the anaerobic threshold of a subject during exercise testing. Analogue signals representing physiological information are acquired and processed by a small microcomputer incorporating a novel synchronous integration technique. Results are presented which demonstrate the correlation of the determination of the anaerobic threshold by this technique to the results obtained from the conventional invasive method of blood lactic acid determinations.
