[Auszug] Nuclear transfer offers a cell-based route for producing precise genetic modifications in a range of animal species. Using sheep, we report reproducible targeted gene deletion at two independent loci in fetal fibro-blasts. Vital regions were deleted from the α(1,3)galactosyl transferase ...

[Auszug] SIR - Our recent Letter describing the cloning of sheep by nuclear transfer from an established cell line1 has created much popular interest about the biotechnological applications of the technique and the associated animal welfare issues. We wish to clarify these matters. Five Welsh mountain ...

The line was established from early passage colonies with a morphology like that of embryonic stem (ES) cells. By the second ...

Summary Chlorpropham residues in potato crisps were determined by a method of analysis involving solvent extraction, alumina column clean-up and quantification of the chlorpropham by gas chromatography. The method has an overall recovery rate of 93.2% and the minimum detectable amount is equivalent to 0.035 mg kg1. Commercial samples having an initial residues of 0.18 mg kg1 in washed, peeled slices contained a residue of 0.45 mg kg1 after frying; the frier oil contained 0.4 mg kg1.

Conclusion This study indicates that the instrument of cold can, under appropriate conditions, markedly alter the ability of the intact stomach to secrete acid. In general, the degree of reduction in acid production is directly related to the degree of hypothermia employed and is accompanied by a marked decrease in parietal- and chief-cell mass. The effectiveness of a single episode of hypothermia in the rat stomach is a consequence of the fact that a uniform freeze of precise duration is easily attained. Thus, the work presented here confirms and extends the observations of Buchanet al. 9, 10 and gives an indication of the biologic potential of gastric hypothermia.
