ISSN: 1089-7623Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsElectrical Engineering, Measurement and Control TechnologyNotes: A mechanical linkage attached to a Siemens x-ray diffractometer is designed and constructed to convert it to a Seeman–Bohlin diffractometer, with special emphasis on its suitability for x-ray characterization of polycrystalline thin films. The apparatus employs a pyrolitic graphite monochromator crystal using the full focusing Johansson principle for the diffracted beam to obtain a high intensity low background diffraction pattern. The performance of this Seeman–Bohlin diffractometer is illustrated by recording the diffraction pattern of a 100-A(ring)-thick thin film of gold.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 1996Staff ViewISSN: 1089-7550Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsNotes: Nanocomposite thin films with coexisting magnetic metal and magnetic nonmetal amorphous phases were synthesized by reactively sputtering CoFeSiB:O thin films with a large silicon (15 at.%), and varying oxygen concentrations. The microstructure, magnetization, and hysteresis loops were measured for films with resistivities near the metal–nonmetal transition. These data revealed that, below the metal–nonmetal transition, conductive transport was along the soft magnetic, metallic backbone of the percolation network; the nonmetal phase was a discontinuous, randomly distributed, hard magnetic oxide. The metallic resistivity and exchange anisotropy were both maximized in a nanocomposite with a resistivity at the metal–nonmetal transition. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1365-2559Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: MedicineNotes: A mucinous cystadenoma of the mesentery and two borderline mucinous cystadenocarcinomas of the mesentery and retroperitoneum are reported. The patients were females, aged 38, 47 and 58 years. The cysts showed identical features to those commonly seen in the appendix and ovary. One of our cases, with ‘borderline’ histology, developed metastases to mediastinal lymph nodes, 4 years after diagnosis. We suggest that these tumours develop through mucinous metaplasia in pre-existing mesothelium-lined cysts, the latter being the commonest cysts in this location.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1750-3841Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: Agriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Fishery, Domestic Science, NutritionProcess Engineering, Biotechnology, Nutrition TechnologyNotes: The effects of ultrasound frequency, acoustic power, and exposure time on the functional properties of whey protein concentrate and sodium caseinate films were examined. Average tensile strength of the ultrasound treated caseinate films was 224% higher than that of the control. The ultrasonic process was more effective on sodium caseinate than whey protein concentrate film. Resistance to puncture was improved for both types of films treated at an acoustic power of 5.22W. Increased exposure time resulted in stronger films. Elongation at break, water vapor permeability, and moisture content of films were not affected by the treatment. Ultrasound showed potential for improving mechanical strengths of milk protein films.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
