ISSN: 1573-5117Keywords: mangroves ; east coast of India ; Penaeus sp.. ; stablecarbon isotope ratios ; nurseriesSource: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: BiologyNotes: Abstract The Godavari estuarine system extending over approximately316 km2 has significant annual variation of salinity dueto seasonal flooding which is mainly monsoon fed. This areahas dense vegetation of mangroves and is characterised bypredominance of Avicennia sp. Excoecaria agallochaand Rhizophora sp. In the coastal waters adjacent to themangroves three economically important species of prawns occur(Penaeus monodon, P. indicus and Metapenaeusmonoceros). Their larvae migrate and dwell in the mangroveenvironment. By analysis for the natural stable carbon isotoperatios, it was possible to establish the primary carbon sourcefrom the mangroves to that of larvae and juveniles of P. indicus and P. monodon. This information can be usedto exploit the mangrove habitat as prawnnurseries.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1089-7550Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsNotes: Spin nematics are magnets with long-range tensor order in the absence of a sublattice magnetization; the formation of this novel spin state has been studied within the new quantum fluids perspective of magnetism. Here this recent work on spin nematics is reviewed, and experimental signatures and a candidate system are discussed.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The accuracy in the determination of the minority-carrier diffusion length of polycrystalline materials by the SPV method was demonstrably improved with the use of the determined absorption coefficients for each individual sample.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1089-7690Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsChemistry and PharmacologyNotes: Geometrical and vibrational characterization of NH2(X˜ 2B1,A˜ 2A1,B˜ 2B2), NH(X˜ 3Σ−,a˜ 1Δ, b˜ 1Σ+,A˜ 3Π,c˜ 1Π,d˜ 1Σ+), HNC(X˜ 1Σ+) and hitherto experimentally unreported HNC(a˜ 3A′,b˜ 3A″) systems is reported by taking different sets of active electrons/orbitals in complete active space self consistent field (CASSCF) calculations. Employing CASSCF optimized geometries, the excitation energies, electric field gradients, and dipole moments for these systems have been computed at complete active space second-order perturbation (CASPT2) and multireference singles and doubles configuration interaction (MRD-CI) levels of theory. Computed field gradients are very similar at CASSCF and CASPT2 levels, but differ significantly with those obtained at MRD-CI level. The outcome of present numerical experiment is that the inclusion of excitations higher than singles and doubles and use of a very large CI space employing iterative natural orbitals is necessary to account for the anisotropy of the molecular charge distribution around any nucleus in a molecule. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1089-7690Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsChemistry and PharmacologyNotes: Geometric and vibrational characterization of CCN(X˜ 2Π,a˜ 4Σ−,A˜ 2Δ,B˜ 2Σ−,C˜ 2Σ+), CNC(X˜ 2Πg,A˜ 2Δu,B˜ 2Σu−), CNN(X˜ 3Σ−,a˜ 1Δ,b˜ 1Σ+,A˜ 3Π,1 1Π) and NCN(X˜ 3Σg−,a˜ 1Δg,b˜ 1Σg+,A˜ 3Πu) systems have been done using full-valence complete active space SCF (CASSCF) method. The Renner–Teller interaction parameter, ε, is calculated for Π electronic states with CASSCF potentials. Excitation energies with zero-point corrections, T0, electric field gradient (efg), and dipole moment, μ, are calculated using CASSCF, complete active space second order perturbation theory (CASPT2) and multireference singles and doubles configuration interaction (MRD-CI) levels of theory. The fact that CASSCF values of the principal components VXX, VYY, and VZZ of the efg tensor listed through two quantities eq1(=VZZ) and eq2(=VXX−VYY) are not very different from their CASPT2 counterparts, suggests that second-order perturbation involving all singles and doubles over the one-dimensional space spanned by the CASSCF wave function are not important for the efg and μ. However, the important contributions come from the higher excitations (triple, quadruples, etc.), which are included in MRD-CI wave function, by taking multireference zeroth-order wave function. The use of iterative natural orbital seems to be necessary to obtain stable values of the efg and μ in the MRD-CI method. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1600-0560Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: MedicineNotes: We present a case of a male infant born to a 21 year-old mother without significant past medical history. Clinically, he presented with diffuse bullae and thickened patches of yellow to brown skin exhibiting Darier’s Sign. This condition affected the infant’s entire integument. There was also mild hepatosplenomegaly, detected radiologically. Blood tests and a bone marrow biopsy were normal. The differential diagnosis, clinically, included diffuse cutaneous mastocytosis, bullous genodermatosis, epidermolysis bullosa, epidermolytic hyperkeratosis, incontinentia pigmenti, and staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome. Histologically, there was a proliferation of mast cells within the papillary and reticular dermis, which exhibited positivity with Leder staining, thereby confirming the diagnosis of diffuse cutaneous mastocytosis. Mastocytosis is a condition characterized by mast cell hyperplasia in the bone marrow, liver, spleen, lymph nodes, gastrointestinal tract, and skin. Diffuse cutaneous matocytosis is a rare subset limited to the skin. It occurs in about two percent of cases of mastocytosis and usually affects children before the age of three. This case, although extremely rare, gives an excellent overview of the differential diagnosis of bullous lesions in the pediatric population.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
