We developed a non-water gel product comprising HPC and PEG, reacting hydration with water. We investigated the gelation mechanism of HPC/PEG gel by means of a stress-controlled rheometer and an X-ray diffractometer. According to the results, the mechanism has two factors: entanglement of the HPC polymer chain and cross-linkage of the microcrystal domain of the HPC main chain. The HPC/PEG gel is useful as the basic material of the cosmetic plaster that causes skin surface temperature to rise and the blood stream to accelerate.

Summary The standard karyotype, genome size (DNA content), and genomic DNA base composition and distribution of the relict paracanthopterygian fish,Aphredoderus sayanus, were investigated. Several features of theA. sayanus genome appear to be derived rather than primitive conditions. These include a large number (at least 10 pairs) of bi-armed chromosomes, a low genome size, and high DNA asymmetry. This may indicate thatA. sayanus is not a typical paracanthopterygian fish in terms of its genome structure.

Summary The disposition of aprindine following a single oral dose can best be described by a two-compartment open model. The mean plasma half-life (t1/2β) increased from 8.0±2.1 h (SD) after a 25 mg dose to 9.4±2.9 h after 50 mg and to 15.8±2.6 h after 100 mg, with a decrease in total plasma clearance (Cl/F) and volume of distribution at steady state (Vdss/F) and during β-phase (Vdβ/F). The area under plasma concentration-time curve (AUC), maximum plasma concentration (Cmax) and the amount of unchanged aprindine excreted in the urine increased in a non-linear fashion with the increase in dose. The t1/2β after multiple oral doses showed a 3-fold increase over the single dose value. These results indicate that aprindine shows dose-dependent non-linear kinetics.

    Notes:
Abstract Cyclosporin is known to be effective for both transplantation and a spectrum of immune-mediated diseases. Because this agent also causes severe adverse effects, especially nephrotoxicity, careful monitoring is required for the development of such reactions. Here we report the successful treatment with extremely low-dose cyclosporin (1 mg/kg/day) of a patient who had steroidresistant interstitial pneumonitis and Sjögren's syndrome.

Abstract: This report describes a patient with multiple colonic ulcers and mixed connective tissue disease. The histological findings of the colonic lesions showed vasculitis with T-cell infiltration, and the peripheral T cells were frequently in the activated phase of the cell cycle. In this patient, low-dose cyclosporin treatment (2.5 mg/kg/day) inhibited the T-cell activation in the peripheral lymphocytes and was very effective in the gastrointestinal disorder, which might be related to T-cell activation. This case suggests the possibility that even low-dose cyclosporin can exert a great influence on peripheral T cells and directly inhibit T-cell activation, thereby improving symptoms related to T-cell activation.

Abstract. We have studied inclusive muon events using all the data collected by the TOPAZ detector at $\sqrt{s}=58$ GeV with an integrated luminosity of 273pb $^{-1}$ . From 1328 inclusive muon events, we measured the ratio $R_{q\bar{q}}$ of the cross section for $q\bar{q}$ production to the total hadronic cross section and forward-backward asymmetry $A_{FB}^{q}$ for b and c quarks. The obtained results are $R_{b\bar{b}}=0.13\pm0.02(stat)\pm0.01(syst)$ , $R_{c\bar c}=0.36\pm0.05(stat)\pm0.05(syst)$ , $A_{FB}^{b}=-0.20\pm0.16(stat)\pm0.01(syst)$ and $A_{FB}^ c=-0.17\pm0.14(stat)\pm0.02(syst)$ , in fair agreement with a prediction of the standard model.

    Notes:
Abstract: The authors investigated changes in the ratio of CD4+ to CD8+ T cells (CD4/CD8 ratio) and T-cell activation, indicated by human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DR expression, in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) following treatment. An increase was observed in the CD4/CD8 ratio as well as a decrease in the expression of HLA-DR on T cells with the improvement of clinical manifestations on treatment with steroids or cyclosporine (CSA). In addition, steroid treatment suppressed whereas CSA treatment exerted no perceptible influence on the serum interleukin (IL)-16 level, concurrent with changes in T-cell phenotypes. This indicated that the mechanism of the change in the CD4/CD8 ratio differed depending on the drug, and CD8+ T cells could play an important role in reducing this ratio. The CD4/CD8 ratio and HLA-DR expression may be good indicators of therapeutic efficacy in some SLE patients.
