[Auszug] At present, quasars are the only objects that can be found in significant numbers at large redshifts and are useful in a variety of studies related to the early history of the Universe. Individual quasars are interesting in themselves and they may also be used as probes, to study the properties of ...

[Auszug] TR3 spectra in the 100-450 cm"1 region were generated by 442 nm radiation (3 ml per pulse) from a dye laser pumped by the third harmonic frequency of a Nd:YAG laser (Quanta Ray DCR and PDL system) operating at 10 Hz. Samples of stable deoxyHb were prepared by either extended flushing of HbO2 with ...

[Auszug] To overcome some of the limitations of previous systems we are developing a cell which incorporates a simple pressure-sensitive device not previously used in this application. The cell is designed to measure any magnitude of earth pressure likely to be encountered in earthwork construction ...

[Auszug] The discovery2 of stellar aggregates at the extreme eastern tip of the wing prompted us to investigate a large area to th east of the wing. For this purpose we obtained a pair of UK Schmidt plates (IIIaJ + GG385 and IIIaF+OG590) centred on RA02h 37 min, dec. -73 43'. The plates were; scanned and ...

[Auszug] AS431 was observed on 30 January 1988 at 5 GHz with a bandwidth of 9 MHz for a total period of 15 h. As part of the MERLIN extension project, the 5 GHz receivers have recently been equipped with cooling so that the system temperatures on the individual telescopes ranged from 30 K to 40 K. ...

[Auszug] The recent development of techniques that are capable of finding high-redshift quasars in significant numbers, in surveys that cover large areas of sky and reach relatively faint limiting magnitudes, has led to a change in our understanding of how the quasar population evolves at early epochs. ...

Abstract In this paper we examine the usefulness of a simple memory array architecture to several image processing tasks. This architecture, called theAccess Constrained Memory Array Architecture (ACMAA) has a linear array of processors which concurrently access distinct rows or columns of an array of memory modules. We have developed several parallel image processing algorithms for this architecture. All the algorithms presented in this paper achieve a linear speed-up over the corresponding fast sequential algorithms. This was made possible by exploiting the efficient local as well as global communication capabilities of the ACMAA.
