This system was developed to study magnetoresistive (MR) thin films used in magnetic recording read heads. It uses a dc, four-probe resistance measurement coupled with two pairs of orthogonal field sources. Voltage contacts to the thin film are made with microprobe tips 0.1 μm in diameter on local edge and central regions of the film. Horizontal and vertical microscopes are used to verify tip placement. Results from magnetoresistance measurements of the dynamic response of a MR read head film are shown to demonstrate system operation and performance. The bulk and local magnetoresistance of a 10 μm×10 μm NiFe thin film was measured as a function of applied field and angle. Significant variations in MR responses were seen across the width of the device because of local domain formation. The MSMS is an effective tool for characterizing the effects of domain formation on the output of a MR read head.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

In nearly all samples, immature forms of zooplankton accounted for more than 50% of the zooplankton population; Nitzschia, Coscinodiscus, Navicula and Thalassiosira species were present in each of the four phytoplankton samples. The most common reason for suspect colonies to fail confirmation was their ability to grow in trypticase peptone broth with 10% NaCL When 922 confirmed isolates were tested serologically 72 (7.8%) were typable. In 87% of the positive oyster samples the level of V. parahaemolyticus was 〈 100 per g. Standard Plate Counts of oysters ranged from 5.0 × 103 to 〉 3.0 × 107 (mean 2.5 × 106) per g, Aerobic Plate Counts from 3.0 × lo3 to 〉 3.0 × 107 (mean 1.8 × 106) per g. No seasonal distribution of V. parahaemolyticus was apparent. No statistically significant relationship existed between V. parahaemolyticus count of oysters and bacteriological (Standard Plate Count, Aerobic Plate Count, coliform, fecal coliform and E. coli counts) and environmental parameters (water temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved O2, sampling depth, tide, wind and rainfall).Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The data from nine market surveys indicated that V. parahaemolyticus counts of oysters usually decreased during processing and subsequent storage. On the other hand, Standard Plate Counts increased in the majority of samples after storage at refrigeration temperatures.
