Abstract: Oscillations in quantum phase about a mean value of π, observed across micropores connecting two 3 He - B  baths, are explained in a Ginzburg-Landau phenomenology. The dynamics arises from the Josephson phase relation, the interbath continuity equation, and helium boundary conditions. The pores are shown to act as Josephson tunnel junctions, and the dynamic variables are the inter bath phase difference and fractional difference in superfluid density at micropores. The system maps onto a non-rigid, momentum-shortened pendulum, with inverted-orientation oscillations about a vertical tilt angle φ = π, and other modes are predicted.

Abstract Isoscalar monopole vibrations in spherical nuclei are studied within the Landau-Vlasov dynamics. Energy and strength of the giant monopole resonance (GMR) are well reproduced. The Landau damping of the monopole vibrations is analyzed. It is found that the local Fermi surface corresponding to the GMR is deformed. The collision integral is included within the relaxation time approximation. The found total width is too small to explain the observed one in heavy nuclei. Because the Landau damping is sensitive to the effective nuclear force the missing part of the width can be connected to certain properties of the latter.

    Notes:
Abstract: We demonstrate, both from a theoretical and an experimental point of view, the possibility of realizing a weak coupling between two Bose-Einstein condensates trapped in different Zeeman states. The weak coupling drives macroscopic quantum oscillations between the condensate populations and the observed current-phase dynamics is described by generalized Josephson equations. In order to highlight the superfluid nature of the oscillations, we investigate the response of a 87Rb non-condensate (thermal) gas in the same conditions, showing that the thermal oscillations damp more quickly than those of the condensate.

    Notes:
Abstract: We study a Bose-Einstein condensate trapped in an asymmetric double well potential. Solutions of the time-independent Gross-Pitaevskii equation reveal intrinsic loops in the energy (or chemical potential) level behavior when the shape of the potential is varied. We investigate the corresponding behavior of the quantum (many-body) energy levels. Applying the two-mode approximation to the bosonic field operators, we show that the quantum energy levels create an anti-crossing net inside the region bounded by the loop of the mean field solution.
